NEUE WELTEN 2: Asia meets Europe meets Asia

Nach dem bemerkenswerten Musikforum Festival “NEUE WELTEN 1” im Juli 2012, das sich mit der Musik, Kunst und  Literatur der U.S.A. beschäftigte, liegt heuer bei „NEUE WELTEN 2“ der Schwerpunkt auf Asiens Musik, Kunst & Philosophie, einer weiteren Neuen Welt.

Bei dem Festival werden MusikerInnen aus Japan, Korea, Vietnam, China, Taiwan, Indien, Iran, Syrien, Libanon, Palästina, Türkei und der autonomen russischen Republik Tuva, meist in Kombination mit europäischen MusikerInnen, im Ambiente des ehemaligen Zisterzienserstiftes Viktring und rund um das Gustav Mahler Komponierhäuschen in Maiernigg Einblicke in traditionelle und avantgardistische Entwicklungen der vielfältigen Musik und Kultur Asiens geben.

Einen weiteren Schwerpunkt bildet auch 2013 wieder der  Gustav Mahler Kompositionspreis der Stadt Klagenfurt. Preise im Wert von € 7.500,- werden für die Vertonung von drei Gedichten des arabischen Dichters Saadi und Johann Wolfgang von Goethe vergeben.
Darüber hinaus wird es – ebenfalls unter Einbeziehung von asiatischen MusikerInnen – ein breites Angebot höchst interessanter Workshops geben.
Begleitet und eingerahmt wird die Musik durch bildende Kunst (Ausstellungen und Bühnenbilder), Vorträge, Filme, Round-Table-Gespräche und Performances.

After last year’s remarkable Musikforum festival NEUE WELTEN 1 focusing on music, fine arts and literature of the U.S.A., the center of this year’s “NEUE WELTEN 2" under the heading “„Asia meets Europe meets Asia“ covers the music, fine arts and philosophy of Asia, another New World.

In the wonderful atmosphere of Viktring Abbey and the surroundings of Mahler’s composing hut in Maiernigg, musicians from China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, India, Palestine, Syria, Turkey, Lebanon, Iran and the autonomous Russian Republic TUVA, often performing in collaboration with European musicians, will provide exciting insights into developments of traditional and avant-garde music in Asia and Europe.

As in earlier years, the Gustav Mahler Composition Prize of the City of Klagenfurt and the award-winning works produced for the occasion will form another focal point of the 2013 Musikforum. In addition, the programme will include a number of highly interesting workshops, some of them again enlisting musicians from Asia.

Throughout the festival the music events will be accompanied and framed by fine art (exhibitions and stage sets), discussions, films, round tables and performances.
